What is a Grandfamily?
A grandfamily is a household in which grandparents or other relatives are the primary caregivers for children and serve as:
- Legal Guardians
- Informal Caregivers
Grandfamilies step in during moments of crisis—often with little support. Grandfamilies are formed when parents are unable to care for their children due to:
- Death or serious illness
- Substance use disorder
- Incarceration
- Military deployment
- Economic hardship or housing instability
- Other family crises

Safe and affordable housing with on-site community health workers and transformative services to enable grandchildren to age-out to a workplace and independent living.
Grandfamily Resource Center
Resource centers bring benefits, referral and other services directly into the community—through a senior center, community organization, school or other trusted location.
Health & Wellness Programs
Mobile services can include free health, dental, and vision screenings, medication management, Medicare enrollment, mental health screenings, haircuts, and access to legal resources.
